In a break away from the channel swims that I have been emersed in, I wanted to create a new and exciting challenge.

Inspired by David Goggin’s 4x4x48 running challenge, where you run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. Take a look here to see where this idea was born!

SWIM 5 KILOMETRES • EVERY 5 HOURS • OVER 50 HOURS

WHY?
This is a personal challenge with a twist. The test comes from the fact that it requires the deprivation of sleep and rest. It requires mental toughness to deal with the repetition.

WHEN?
We will start on Friday, November 18th at 7am. This will be the first 5km swim. I will start each 5km block exactly 5 hours after that. This will see me commence the 10th and final 5km swim at 3am on Sunday, November 20th. I expect to take around 2 hours to finish the last 5km swim. So, we should be done and dusted at around 5am.

WHERE?
‘Locistics is something of an issue with a challenge like this. Getting access to a pool at all hours, ensuring I have a clear lane, and making sure that I utilize every minute of non-swimming time for eating and resting.
